Root Canal Therapy
- Do not eat anything until the numbness wears off
- Do not drink anything hot. Anything cold can be drank through a straw
- Soreness at the injection site is common
- Gum irritation is likely to happen. Warm salt water rinses will help healing.
- You may want to take over the counter anti-inflammatory medications before your prescription is ready (Ibuprofen or Aleve). You can continue taking these medications for several days after your procedure to manage any soreness.
- Biting sensitivity is normal as the ligaments will be irritated
- If a crown is needed following your root canal, we recommend getting it prepared no earlier than two weeks and no later than two months. Waiting too long to crown a root canal treated tooth can jeopardize the long-term success of the procedure.
- You will likely be given an antibiotic and MUST take the ENTIRE prescription. If you have a reaction, stop immediately, take Benadryl, and call us immediately. Antibiotics can alter the effectiveness of oral contraceptives in women.
- If pain persists or increases after the first couple days please call our office.
